Semana Santa in Montoro 2027

About the event

Holy Week in Montoro, of Andalusian tourist interest, mixes Baroque art, the military discipline of its Imperio and apostles who act out Gospel passages. More than 500 Romans with breastplates and plumes parade up and down the slopes of the old town, above the meander of the Guadalquivir and the red molinaza stone.

Key points

  • Festival of Tourist Interest of Andalusia (1999); aiming for the national declaration
  • More than 500 Romans of the Imperio
  • Oldest brotherhood dating from 1554

What it is / What you will see

From 21 to 28 March 2027 Montoro celebrates one of the most distinctive Holy Weeks in the province, declared of Andalusian tourist interest. Its application for the national declaration is already well advanced. Its great emblems are the Romans, more than 500 men with velvet breastplates, finely wrought helmets and plumes, with over three centuries of history, and the apostles, who have acted out Gospel passages since the 17th century. On Palm Sunday there is a transfer in the form of a Stations of the Cross from the parish church of El Carmen, in the Plaza del Charco, to Santa María de la Mota. On Holy Tuesday the Humildad goes out. The oldest brotherhood dates from 1554.

Getting there and tickets

The processions go through the old town of Montoro, with steep slopes and narrow streets of molinaza stone. They are watched in the street, for free. There is an app with the location of the floats in real time, very useful for getting around the centre. Montoro is about 45 km from Córdoba on the A-4, some 35 minutes by car. Wear comfortable shoes, because the slopes are part of the route.
