What it is / What you will see
"Moça tan fermosa non vi en la frontera, como una vaquera de la Finojosa". These lines by the Marqués de Santillana are the starting point for one of the biggest community plays in Spain. Hinojosa del Duque stages it every four years, and the Junta declared it an Acontecimiento de Interés Turístico de Andalucía by an order of 13 February 2025. In the 9th edition in 2026 more than 250 villagers took part as actors and in costumes, set design, music and logistics, all of them as volunteers, and there were real animals on stage. The play is performed in chronological order every night at sunset, lit by the parish church of San Juan Bautista, the Catedral de la Sierra.
Getting there and tickets
The performances take place in the Plaza de la Catedral in Hinojosa del Duque. In 2026 there were four nights, from 30 July to 2 August, with tickets on sale weeks beforehand through the Town Council. Given its four-yearly rhythm (2022 and 2026), the next edition would be in the summer of 2030. The dates and prices will be announced by Hinojosa del Duque Town Council. Hinojosa is an hour and a quarter from Córdoba along the N-432.
