What it is
Every two years, Fuente Obejuna performs 'Fuenteovejuna', Lope de Vega's classic, in the very village where the residents rose up against the commander. The last edition was in August 2026 and the next would be due in 2028, presumably also in the second half of August. More than 200 villagers become actors, extras and technicians in a production with a budget of close to 200,000 euros, which attracts more than 8,000 spectators per edition and has been applauded at the Festival de Almagro. The performance is recognised as a Bien de Interés Cultural (asset of cultural interest).
Getting there and tickets
Fuente Obejuna is in the north of the province, an hour and a quarter by car from Córdoba along the N-432. The programme, the times and the ticketing system are made known when each edition is presented, a few months beforehand. It is organised by Fuente Obejuna Town Council with the support of the Diputación de Córdoba; information is published on fuenteobejuna.es. In 2026 it was directed by José Carlos Cuevas and Pedro Hofhuis. Note: the dates given are an estimate based on the usual calendar, not an official announcement. Before planning your trip, check for confirmation on the organiser's website, which usually publishes it a few months ahead, and book accommodation in advance if you are coming from elsewhere.
