About the event
The Auto Sacramental de los Reyes Magos, declared of Interés Turístico de Andalucía in 2008, is a community play that El Viso stages every four years. The last one ran from 2 to 6 January 2026. More than 250 villagers recreate the birth of Jesus and the adoration of the shepherds and the Three Kings, based on the text by Gaspar Fernández de Ávila. The next edition would be due in January 2030, pending confirmation.

What it is / What you will see
The Auto de los Reyes Magos is the most representative event in El Viso's culture and is declared of tourist interest in Andalusia. It is based on "La infancia de Jesucristo", by Gaspar Fernández de Ávila, published in 1784, adapted into two acts of six scenes with dances and carols. In 2026 more than 250 villagers took part. A set took up more than half the square, with a carpenter's workshop, a market, a tavern, inns, Herod's Palace and the stable at Bethlehem, and there were Romans on horseback and video mapping. The play goes through the Annunciation, the census, the search for lodging, the birth and the adoration of the shepherds and the Kings. The Coral de la Peña de los Reyes Magos sings the carols live.
Getting there and tickets
The play is performed in the open air in the Plaza de la Constitución in El Viso. In 2026 the performances started at around 8 pm, from 2 to 6 January, with blankets, scarves and patio heaters for the audience. It is organised by the Town Council and the Peña Cultural Reyes Magos, with support from the Diputación de Córdoba. As it is held every four years, the next edition would be in January 2030, but the dates are not official. El Viso is an hour and a half from Córdoba along the N-502.
