About the event

Bujalance celebrates a Holy Week of Andalusian tourist interest with seven Passion brotherhoods: Borriquita, Gran Poder, Vía Crucis, Vera Cruz, Padre Jesús, Santo Entierro and Resucitado. Its origins go back to the mid-16th century. The world of the costaleros, the float bearers, grows every year, with men and women under the floats.

What it is / What you will see

Holy Week in Bujalance, from 21 to 28 March 2027, is a popular celebration with roots in the mid-16th century and a declaration of Andalusian tourist interest. Seven Passion brotherhoods take part: Borriquita, Gran Poder, Vía Crucis, Vera Cruz, Padre Jesús, Santo Entierro and Resucitado. Padre Jesús processes in the Madrugá, the early hours of Good Friday. The Vera Cruz sets off from its chapel, the Ermita de la Santa Cruz, which has now recovered from the fire that destroyed the canopy drapes of the Virgen de la Esperanza. They are accompanied by the Banda de Música Pedro Lavirgen and the local Imperio Romano. Women carry floats and lead brotherhoods.

Getting there and tickets

The brotherhoods set off from their churches in Bujalance, such as the parish church of San Francisco or the Ermita de la Santa Cruz, and go through the town. They are watched in the street, for free. The Agrupación de Cofradías publishes the poster and the timetables during Lent. Bujalance is about 45 km from Córdoba on the A-4 and the A-3102, some 40 minutes by car. While work continues on the Ermita de Jesús Nazareno y los Dolores, the Nazareno brotherhood sets off from a parish church, so check the routes before you go.
