All the information

About the event
In 2027 Holy Week in Baena has its second edition with the title of Festival of International Tourist Interest. Its identity comes from the coliblancos and colinegros, the white-tailed and black-tailed ‘judíos’, and the roll of their drum, on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list since 2018, together with Roman centuries, biblical figures and Gospel scenes acted out in the steep streets of the old town.
Key points
- Festival of International Tourist Interest (BOE, February 2026)
- The judío's drum, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity
- Early hours of Holy Wednesday: the judíos ‘echan las cajas’ in the Almedina
What it is / What you will see
From Palm Sunday (21 March) to Easter Sunday (28 March) 2027 Baena celebrates a Holy Week that the Ministry raised in 2025 to Festival of International Tourist Interest, a title made official in the BOE, the state gazette, in February 2026. Everything revolves around brotherhoods, cuadrillas, Roman centuries, biblical figures and, above all, the coliblancos and colinegros, the ‘judíos’ told apart by the colour of the horsehair tail on their helmets. Their drum has been recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2018. The most impressive moments are the early hours of Holy Wednesday, when the judíos ‘echan las cajas’ (start their drums) in the Almedina quarter, the Visit to the Tabernacles on Maundy Thursday and the Arrest of Jesús Nazareno in the Plaza de la Constitución on Good Friday.
Getting there and tickets
The processions go through the old town of Baena, with the Plaza de la Constitución and the Almedina quarter as the main settings. Everything is in the street and free. It is organised by the local brotherhoods with the support of Baena Town Council. The 2027 times and routes are published during Lent. It is worth booking accommodation early, because many more visitors have been coming since the international declaration. From Córdoba you take the A-306, a little over an hour by car. The sound of the drum can be heard at any hour all week long, so it is worth staying a night or two.
