What it is / What you will see
The Domingos de Mayo, the Sundays of May, are the great religious and popular festival of Priego de Córdoba and date from the first half of the 17th century. Five brotherhoods share out the Sundays of the month in this order: Caridad (with María Santísima de los Desamparados, which opens the cycle), Buen Suceso, Soledad, Nazareno and Columna. Each Sunday the brotherhood whose turn it is holds its solemn main service and its procession. During the preceding week there are religious services, displays of flowers and lights, choirs, orchestras and bands, and the traditional auction of gifts, which is one of the festival's hallmarks. The Nazareno's, with rockets and votive festivities all week, is one of the best attended.
Getting there and tickets
The services and processions are held in the churches and streets of the historic centre of Priego de Córdoba. Everything is free. They are organised by the brotherhoods themselves, which publish their timetables each year. In 2026 the cycle began on the first Sunday of May with the Caridad. In 2027 the Sundays of May are the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th, but the dates are to be confirmed. Priego is about 100 km from Córdoba, an hour and a half by car on the A-45 and the A-339. You can take the chance to see the Fuente del Rey and the Villa quarter at the height of spring.
