What it is / What you will see
The Romería de Nuestra Señora de Linares is one of the best-loved dates of Córdoba's May. Hundreds of riders, decorated wagons and pilgrims on foot leave the city for the sanctuary of Linares, about eight kilometres to the north-west, on the slopes of Sierra Morena. The sanctuary stands beside an old Arab watchtower where, according to tradition, Ferdinand III camped during the conquest of Córdoba. Once up there, the day continues in the countryside with mass, socialising, sevillanas and the perol, the communal rice dish cooked outdoors. It is held on the first Sunday of May, so in 2027 it should fall on 2 May.
Getting there and tickets
The procession sets off at around 9 am from Avenida de la República Argentina and crosses the city towards the road to the sanctuary of Linares. It is a popular festival, free and open to everyone: you can join on foot or watch the wagons go by in the centre. The 2027 date and time are awaiting official confirmation by Córdoba City Council (Fiestas y Tradiciones). If you drive to the sanctuary, bear in mind that there are many access restrictions that day.
