Manuel and Concha, at the end of the road
Day after day, Manuel and Concha work their way through the last pages of the calendar that life dealt them. They have spent their lives on stages they dressed in flamenco, between applause and oblivion, between light and shadow. Sometimes recognition came; sometimes they only dreamed it. Today, blurred by the years and pushed to the margins, they get up each morning with the artist's soul intact, the one that, against all odds, demands its dignity. Old age and the end of the road are told through dance and song, to the sound of a guitar, to speak of what is left when the spotlights go out.
A mask for telling the truth
"Give a man a mask and he will tell you the truth," wrote Oscar Wilde, and that idea is the starting point for Fetén: a tragicomic show with live music, the result of months of research in search of common ground where mask work and flamenco could join hands. The original idea is by Juan Luis Corrientes, who performs it alongside Beatriz Prior. The two have delved into experiences from their families, their neighbourhood and the city where they grew up to bring to life characters born of the flamenco of the people, the kind you hear in the street. They themselves call it a flamenco operetta for two masks and a guitar.
On the anniversary of flamenco as World Heritage
The IMAE programmes Fetén at the Teatro Góngora, on Calle Jesús María in Córdoba, on 5 November, as part of the events commemorating the anniversary of UNESCO's declaration of flamenco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which has been celebrated every 16 November since 2010. It is the same anniversary that brings Alboroto's flamenco circus to the Góngora ten days later. The performance starts at 20:00 and tickets cost 18 euros, on sale at teatrocordoba.es and at the Teatro Góngora box office.
