Averroes on screen
“Destiny”, by Egyptian director Youssef Chahine, is set in 12th-century Córdoba and tells the life of the philosopher Averroes (1126-1198), the great interpreter of Aristotle for the West, persecuted by the fundamentalists of his day. When the caliph orders his books to be burned, his disciples make copies and smuggle them out of the country to save his ideas. Made in 1997, it runs 138 minutes and is shown in its original version with subtitles.
