Two Córdoba sages
Averroes y Maimónides, luz de al-Ándalus is a film by Córdoba-born Miguel Ángel Entrenas, shot in 2015, that traces episodes from the lives of the two great thinkers born in Córdoba. More than a conventional biography, it is a tribute to intellectual freedom and reason in the face of fanaticism, set against the arrival of the Almohads and the end of the refinement of caliphal Córdoba.
A special session
The screening is organised by the University of Córdoba together with the Filmoteca de Andalucía as part of the activities for the philosopher's centenary. It is a special 70-minute screening in the original Spanish version, fitting in with the rest of the programme the city devotes to Averroes this autumn. It is on Wednesday 11 November 2026 at 20:00 at the Filmoteca de Andalucía, calle Medina y Corella, 5, next to the Mezquita. Entry is free until the cinema is full, so it is worth arriving with some time to spare.
