The cemetery as heritage

The "History, legends and symbolism" tour is one of the most successful offerings of the Semana de Ánimas in Priego de Córdoba. The City Council notes it began as an unusual activity and now generates waiting lists. In 2026 it will be repeated on Thursday, October 29 at 17:00, with guides from local tourism companies, organized by the Heritage and Tourism Promotion Area and the Adolfo Lozano Sidro Board.

What you will see on the tour

The Santo Cristo cemetery was inaugurated in 1869, during the mayoralty of Antonio de la Barrera. The walk covers its history, the legends told about it, and the meaning of the symbolic elements of its graves. Highlights include the main chapel, the Hermandad de la Caridad pantheon, some private graves in the central area, and the wrought iron gate of the entrance, dating from the same period as the grounds.

Registration

Places are limited and it is advisable to sign up as soon as possible. The official Semana de Ánimas program includes a QR code for registration, and the City Council refers to its municipal channels and Turismo de Priego for activities requiring booking. It has not been announced if there is a cost. The cemetery is open in October and November from 8:00 to 20:00 every day.
