What it is
The Castillo de Belalcázar, also known as the castle of the Sotomayors or of Gahete, is one of the most remarkable fortresses built in the second half of the 15th century and dominates the Los Pedroches area. Its great draw is the keep, 47 metres high, the tallest in the Iberian Peninsula. The guided visits, promoted by the Junta de Andalucía and run by the company Arquería Cultural, last about an hour and a half and take in the castle's surroundings, the parade ground, the climb up the tower and the viewpoint. Along the way the guide explains the site's historical development, its defensive architecture and the building solutions that make it unique.
