The departed traditions of Priego
The Week of Souls was created seven editions ago to strengthen Priego's customs around the departed, during a time when celebrations from other countries have gained prominence. It is organized by the Heritage and Tourism Promotion Department of the City Council with local associations, brotherhoods, and institutions, and its poster has featured the Death Angel from the altarpiece of the Parish of the Assumption for years.
Villa Velada and Souls Songs
On October 31, the sixth Villa Velada takes place: the Villa neighborhood is illuminated and decorated, with the sale of fritters, chestnuts, and traditional sweets, plus the melon lantern workshop returning to the neighborhood. That early morning, from October 31 to November 1, the Brothers of the Dawn perform the Souls Songs at the cemetery, a tradition declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation. On November 1 and 2, there are masses at the cemetery.
Cemetery, literature, and Lozano Sidro
On October 29, there is a repeat visit dedicated to the history, legends, and symbolism of Priego's cemetery, which tends to fill up, and the library offers storytelling and the children's workshop 'Dismantling Frankenstein'. On October 30, the II Noir Novel Day arrives, with writer Fernando Repiso and criminologist Manuel Moreno. The program concludes on November 7, the birthday of painter Adolfo Lozano Sidro, with a lecture on the restoration of his work by Manuel Jiménez Pedrajas.
