What it is / What you will see
Tesoros en el Museo brings together two sets of jewellery discovered in 1926 which, though both are labelled treasure, belong to very different worlds. The Almadenes hoard, found beside the mine of the same name in Alcaracejos, has a distinctly Celtic flavour: silver vessels, brooches, torcs and bracteates alongside nearly a hundred Roman denarii from the 2nd and 1st centuries BCE. The Torredonjimeno hoard (Jaén), from the Visigothic period and dating to around the 7th century, is liturgical: plain crosses, embossed crosses and crosses set with precious stones, inscribed plaques, pearls and pendants. This second hoard ended up divided between Barcelona, Madrid and Córdoba.
