What it is
Córdoba's Carnival revolves around the Concurso Oficial de Agrupaciones Carnavalescas (COAC), which takes over the Gran Teatro for almost two weeks. Following the 2026 calendar, in 2027 the preliminary rounds are expected from 19 January, the semi-finals the following week and the grand final on Saturday 30 January. Chirigotas, comparsas and choirs compete with lyrics full of humour and satire. The festivities are rounded off in the street with the Gran Cabalgata de Carnaval, expected on Sunday 14 February, with groups and costumes parading through the centre. The dates depend on Holy Week and are confirmed in the autumn.
Getting there and tickets
The competition sessions are held at the Gran Teatro in Córdoba, on Avenida del Gran Capitán; tickets are sold at the box office and on the website of the Instituto Municipal de las Artes Escénicas. In 2026 the final began at 8 pm. The parade, which is free, set off at 12 noon from the Paseo de la Victoria and continued along the Ronda de los Tejares and Claudio Marcelo to the Plaza de la Corredera. Note: the dates given are an estimate based on the usual calendar, not an official announcement. Before planning your trip, check for confirmation on the organiser's website, which usually publishes it a few months ahead, and book accommodation in advance if you are coming from elsewhere.
