  • Festival of Tourist Interest of Andalusia and Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC)
  • Leaves the sanctuary in the afternoon and reaches the church square at dusk
  • The following Monday is a local holiday in Pozoblanco

What it is / What you will see

The Virgen de Luna is the patron saint shared by Pozoblanco and Villanueva de Córdoba. Her pilgrimages across the dehesa of Los Pedroches are declared of Tourist Interest of Andalusia and protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest. In the romería de traída, the pilgrimage that brings her home, Pozoblanco goes to fetch her from the sanctuary of La Jara. According to the 2025 programme, the day begins in the early hours with the call to the brotherhood members and the departure from Capitanía. Then come the reception of the guest brotherhoods, the procession around the sanctuary, mass and the brotherhood lunch. In the afternoon the Virgin sets off for Pozoblanco, passes the Arroyo Hondo and reaches the church square at dusk, amid drums, floats and riders.

Getting there and tickets

The pilgrimage leaves from the sanctuary of the Virgen de Luna, in the Dehesa de la Jara, and ends in the church square in Pozoblanco. In 2025 the Town Council laid on shuttle buses from the hospital, the Paseo de los Llanos and the bus station, at €2 for a single and €3 for a return. It also reserved tracks for buses and emergency vehicles. Taking part is free. The 2027 date (31 January) follows from the rule used in recent editions and has yet to be confirmed by the Cofradía. Pozoblanco is a little over an hour from Córdoba by road.
