A site that rarely opens

The Enclave Arqueológico de Ategua, a listed Bien de Interés Cultural on the Cerro de los Castillejos de Teba, is not normally open to the public. The Asociación Cultural Amigos de Ategua, with the Delegación de Cultura of the Diputación de Córdoba and the collaboration of the Junta de Andalucía, is opening it exceptionally for this series of three tours with archaeologist Juan de Dios Borrego.

The three tours

«Social Life in Roman Ategua», on Saturday 14 November, takes in the domus, the baths, the bakery and the amphitheatre. «Medieval Ategua», on Saturday 28 November, focuses on the Islamic fortress in the upper part of the site and the market building. «Roman Amphitheatre and Temple», on 12 December, shows the results of the 2020 to 2025 excavations, with the amphitheatre and an earlier sanctuary. All start at 10:00.

Registration and tips

The tours are free until places run out, and the registration form is at ategua.es. The site has no toilets, and access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility or for pushchairs.
