As every year, the Coral Real Peña «El Limón» offers its Serenade of Greeting to the Archangel San Rafael on Friday 23 October at 23:30 at the iglesia del Juramento de San Rafael, in Córdoba. Afterwards, those attending can enjoy the traditional pestiñada, pestiños (honey-glazed pastries) with anisette, at the church doors.

On the night of 23 October, on the threshold of San Rafael's day, the Coral Real Peña «El Limón» returns to the iglesia del Juramento to sing its Serenades of Greeting to the Archangel. It is a custom the peña keeps every year, and it is announced by the Ilustre Hermandad del Arcángel San Rafael, Custodio de Córdoba, the brotherhood based in this church. It starts at 23:30 and welcomes in 24 October, a local holiday in the city.
The El Limón peña's choir
The Coral Real Peña «El Limón» belongs to the cultural club Peña El Limón, Amigos de Ramón Medina, one of Córdoba's historic peñas, founded in 1934 according to its own crest. Its choir is a familiar presence in the city's musical and brotherhood life, and the serenade to the guardian is one of its fixed dates of the year. The brotherhood invites its members and everyone in Córdoba to join the peña in this act of devotion and fellowship.
Pestiños and anisette afterwards
When the serenade ends, those attending can enjoy the classic pestiñada with anisette at the church doors, on the plaza de San Rafael. The event is free and open to everyone. As the church is small and the occasion is much loved in the city, it is best to arrive a little early. The next morning, 24 October at 10:30, there is a mass in honour of the Archangel San Rafael, presided over by the bishop of Córdoba and concelebrated by the Cathedral Chapter.
