Manolete in color
«Manolete, his legacy» is a pictorial monograph by artist Antonio Cabello dedicated to Manuel Rodríguez Sánchez, Manolete, the IV Caliph of Córdoba bullfighting. The exhibition moves away from sepia and black and white images traditionally associated with the bullfighter, presenting him with an intense color palette. Cabello does not copy period photographs; he starts from images taken by prominent photographers of those years, intervenes and transforms them, isolating the bullfighter from his context so he occupies the entire center of each piece. The exhibition is organized by the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage of the City Council.
See, look, and observe
The most striking feature of the series is how it changes with distance. Up close, each piece looks like a fragmented puzzle of pure colors; stepping back, these pigments align and restore the clarity of a photograph. The exhibition invites visitors to walk through the rooms approaching and distancing from each work. In addition to the portrait of the bullfighter, Cabello captures the plasticity of the corrida: movement, ritual, the athletic dimension of the fight, and the presence of the audience in the stands.
