The Compañía Sevillana de Zarzuela brings La Gran Vía, the género chico satire by Federico Chueca and Joaquín Valverde in which the streets and neighbourhoods of Madrid become characters. With period costumes and direction by Elena Martínez Delgado and Marta García Morales.

What it is
La Gran Vía is a comic, satirical zarzuela of the género chico, the short one-act form, composed by Federico Chueca and Joaquín Valverde. The action takes place in Madrid and its protagonists are the city's own streets and neighbourhoods, which comment with humour on the changes brought about by the opening of the famous avenue. Through musical tableaux and short scenes, the work criticises social, political and economic matters of its day in a festive tone. The Compañía Sevillana de Zarzuela revived it in 2023 for the 175th anniversary of Chueca's birth, with the costumes of the former company of Nieves Fernández and the restored sets. The musical and stage direction, by Elena Martínez Delgado and Marta García Morales, takes a historically informed approach.
Getting there and tickets
The performance is on Friday 11 December 2026 at 8 pm at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba, Avenida del Gran Capitán, 3, right in the centre. Tickets range from €11 to €27 depending on the zone and are sold at entradas.teatrocordoba.es and at the box offices of the municipal theatres. It is part of the programme of the Instituto Municipal de Artes Escénicas de Córdoba (IMAE). Once bought, tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded.
