A ramp that divides a community
“La alegría” was commissioned by Sala Beckett to Marilia Samper, who wrote and directed it. The story takes place in a working-class neighborhood block: a mother raising her son Eli alone, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair, asks the neighbors for a ramp so he can go outside. What seemed simple reveals refusals, doubts, and small betrayals. It is a domestic and political drama about empathy, accessibility, and the limits of coexistence.
Cast and journey
Produced by Serendipia, the play won the Lorca Award in 2025 and has had a notable run on stage. On stage are Paqui Montoya, Fernando Lahoz, Manuel Monteagudo, and Amparo Marín, with set design by Lugadero and costumes by Gloria Trenado. The show is part of Sur Escena, the festival with which the Junta opens the performing arts season in Andalusian capitals.
