What it is
On 10 October the Agrupación de Cofradías de Baena, the town's association of religious brotherhoods, holds the Inicio del Año Cofrade, the start of a special year because it marks the 50th anniversary of its founding with cultural activities, publications, talks and exhibitions. There will be no procession this year: the day starts at 10.30 with an opening ceremony and the presentation of a bouquet to the Cofradía de la Borriquita at Santa María la Mayor, continues with the move to the church of Guadalupe and the presentation of the year's activities, such as the Arco Oscuro competition and the magazine Cabildo. Then comes the fifth Jornada de Tambores, which brings together cofradía members, peñas and locals around the beat of the drum, recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in a Holy Week of International Tourist Interest.
Getting there and tickets
The day is Saturday 10 October 2026 in Baena. It starts at 10.30 at the church of Santa María la Mayor, continues at the church of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe and, once the religious ceremonies are over, gives way to the V Jornada de Tambores, which runs until 02.00 in the morning. It is organised by the Agrupación de Cofradías de Baena, chaired by Juan Carlos Roldán, with the support of the town council.
