Forty years of guitar in Córdoba
The Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba has held more than forty editions since the early eighties and is one of the world's leading events for the instrument. It is not limited to one style: flamenco, classical guitar, contemporary music and rock share the same bill, with local, Spanish and international names. Besides the concerts there are courses, gatherings of young guitarists and study days on the history of the instrument, so the festival works as a stage and a school at once.
Festival dates and line-up
The festival usually takes up the first half of July and lasts around two weeks. The exact 2027 dates and the line-up have not been published yet: the municipal organisers usually announce them in spring, and tickets go on sale afterwards, by venue and for individual concerts. The big names sell out quickly, especially at the Teatro de la Axerquía. If your trip depends on one particular artist, the sensible thing is to wait for the announcement before booking flights and accommodation.
The city's stages
The concerts are spread across several venues in the centre. The Teatro de la Axerquía is an open-air auditorium and hosts the largest events, with the July nights as part of the atmosphere. The Gran Teatro, right in the old town, is reserved for the more intimate formats, classical guitar and recitals. Other stages around the city join them depending on the edition. Everything is close by, so you can follow dinner in the centre with a concert without needing a car.
Visiting Córdoba in July
July is the hottest month of the year in Córdoba and at midday the city empties. That suits the festival well, because the activity is concentrated at the end of the day: sightseeing in the morning, a siesta and concerts at night. The concerts are ticketed and have limited capacity, unlike the city's other big festivities. In return, it is the low tourist season: there is more accommodation available and at better prices than in May, and the queue to visit the Mezquita-Catedral is considerably shorter.
Dates from 2027 to 2030
The Festival de la Guitarra de Córdoba takes up the first half of July, with concerts spread between the Teatro de la Axerquía, the Gran Teatro and other stages in the city. That window is repeated in 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030. The line-up of artists and the exact dates of each edition are presented by the IMAE months in advance.
