Five weeks of horses in Córdoba

Cabalcor is Córdoba's international horse fair and in 2026 it runs from 8 September to 14 October. It is not a one-off weekend but a long calendar of competitions and displays spread across those weeks. The venue is the Caballerizas Reales, the royal stables built in the 16th century next to the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos to breed the Spanish horse, and still the heart of equestrian life in the city. The central hall is the main space for the activities. The organiser is listed as the Delegación de Fiestas y Tradiciones, together with Córdoba Ecuestre.

Competitions, dressage and the Pura Raza Española

The bulk of the programme is high-level competition. The Concurso Nacional de Caballos de Pura Raza Española brings together more than a hundred horses from the country's leading studs, with Córdoba and its province represented. Around it come classical dressage tests, conformation shows and displays of haute école, the discipline in which the horse performs highly polished movements on almost imperceptible cues from the rider. If you know nothing about horses, the displays can be followed without any background at all; the conformation shows, on the other hand, ask for a little more patience and context.

The Caballerizas Reales, venue and reason

The Caballerizas are right in the old town, hard by the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos and a short walk from the Mezquita-Catedral, so a visit fits neatly into a day's sightseeing in the centre. In September 2026 the city council formally handed the building over to Córdoba Ecuestre for twenty-five years to develop a Centro Internacional del Caballo there. Before taking on the planned building work, the organisation is putting its resources into this edition of the fair, so for these two months the building works as what it was from the outset: a place for horses.

What to check before you go

The council's listings show Cabalcor as a block of dates, but within that period each competition and each display has its own day and time, and there is not something on every day. The detailed programme and the admission conditions are published on the website of Córdoba Ecuestre, the organisation that runs the Caballerizas Reales. It is worth consulting before you turn up, especially if the trip is planned around a particular event or if you are going with children, who tend to cope better with a display than with a whole morning of competition.
