What it is
Gigante (Giant) comes straight from London's West End, where it won three Olivier Awards in 2025, including Best New Play. Mark Rosenblatt's play, translated by José María Pou himself, is set in the summer of 1983: Roald Dahl, author of Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Witches, is going over the proofs of his latest book as the scandal grows over an antisemitic article he has just published. In a single afternoon at his home, faced with an unexpectedly combative visitor, he will have to choose between apologising and risking his fame. Inspired by real events and directed by Josep Maria Mestres, it explores with humour the line between reasoned opinion and the rhetoric of prejudice.
