The home archive, rewritten
«En otro orden de cosas» is a project by Córdoba artist Nieves Galiot that blends contemporary art, sociology and gender perspective. Its starting point is a question: who decides which knowledge deserves to be catalogued and which, like caregiving and home knowledge, are left out. The exhibition is based on research done in Córdoba on how time is divided between men and women, along with four discussion groups. It is supported by the Instituto de las Mujeres and the Fundación Rafael Botí.
What you see
Galiot translates statistics into scientifically inspired images, with alluvial diagrams, flow vectors and spider charts, to depict the weight of domestic work and mental load. Another series reinterprets illustrations and indexes from home encyclopedias published between 1930 and 1970, as a tribute to knowledge passed down by mothers and grandmothers. The project is completed by a sound piece that plays utensils and household objects.
