What it is
“Il barbiere di Siviglia”, by Gioachino Rossini, arrives in Lucena as one of the great comedies of the operatic repertoire: a brilliant, fast-moving and highly theatrical work in which wit, love and freedom triumph over the abuse of power. Its heroine is Rosina, a bright and determined young woman who lives shut away under the control of her guardian, Doctor Bartolo, who intends to marry her. This Córdoba Opera Lab production sets the action in an Andalusian house of the 1950s, under the weight of authority and of a morality shaped by tradition. With the help of Count Almaviva and the wily Figaro, Rosina manages to choose her own destiny.
