What it is and what you will see
The Diputación's guided walks campaign travels to the Subbética to explore the hydraulic heritage of Benamejí. The itinerary links the three waterwheels of the River Genil, now restored, with the bridge over the Genil, just over a kilometre away. Building of that bridge began in 1550, commissioned by Diego de Bernuy, who had bought the lordship of Benamejí a year earlier, and it was designed by the architect Hernán Ruiz. It is a route that is short in distance but demanding, with pronounced slopes, so it is worth weighing up your fitness before signing up. The additional visit in the town is yet to be decided.
Getting there and registration
The coach leaves from the forecourt of the Diputación car park, in the Plaza de Colón in Córdoba, on Sunday 15 November 2026, bound for Benamejí. The approximate timetable is departure at about 8:30 am and return at around 6 pm, to be confirmed for each route. It is free and includes the coach, guides, insurance and a leaflet. Registration is individual via an online form, which opens at 8 am on the Monday of that week and closes when 50 places and 30 reserves are filled; maximum 8 routes per person. Information: 957 211 322.
