Averroes, 900 Years Later
Córdoba dedicates a day of international congress to Ibn Rushd, Averroes, in the year of the 900th anniversary of his birth in the city. Under the motto «an opportunity for reason», the event reflects on the figure of the Andalusian philosopher, jurist and physician and on the relevance of his ideas about the dialogue between reason and faith. It is co-organized by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), the Muslim World League and the Córdoba committee of the Averroes Year, with Tierra Creativa in charge of organization.
Speakers
Coordinated by professor Emilio González Ferrín, commissioner of the Averroes Year. Participants include journalist Zouhir Louassini from RAI, Ali Mostfa from the University of Lyon, Arabist Maravillas Aguiar Aguilar from the University of La Laguna, editor Manuel Pimentel and writer Jesús Sánchez Adalid, among others. The congress is presided over by Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative of UNAOC, and Mohammed Al-Issa, secretary general of the Muslim World League. It has the support of Unesco and Andalusian institutions.

It is on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 10:00 to 18:00, at the Auditorio Embajadores of the Palacio de Congresos de Córdoba, at calle Torrijos 10, opposite the Mosque-Cathedral. Attendance is free, but places are limited and you must confirm attendance through the registration form on the website ibnrushdaverroes.org. Representatives from Unesco and religious leaders are also expected.
