Music for Córdoba's guardian
On 24 October Córdoba celebrates San Rafael, the archangel the city regards as its guardian, and the day is a local holiday in the city. To go with the festivities, the City Council's Department of Festivals and Traditions is putting on a series of two street concerts, in collaboration with the Unión de Bandas Musicales Procesionales de Córdoba. They are two short, free performances that bring the sound of the brotherhood bands to two very Córdoba spots: the Puerta del Puente, next to the Roman Bridge, and plaza Cristo de Gracia.
Friday at the Puerta del Puente
On the eve, Friday 23 October at 21:15, the series opens with the Agrupación Musical Santísimo Cristo de Gracia, a brotherhood band from the city. The concert takes place at the Puerta del Puente, at the foot of the San Rafael monument (the triunfo) with the floodlit Mezquita-Catedral right beside it, so it is worth arriving a little early to get a spot.
Saturday morning at Cristo de Gracia
On Saturday 24 October, San Rafael's day, at 12:00, the Agrupación Musical Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Redención plays in plaza Cristo de Gracia. It is a good stop for anyone visiting the church of the Juramento that day or going for a stroll in the centre before the traditional perol out in the countryside. Both concerts are outdoors and need no ticket.
