Who are the Hermanos de la Aurora

The Hermanos de la Aurora are the bell ringers group of the Nuestra Señora de la Aurora y San Nicasio brotherhood, with documented history since 1696. Every Saturday of the year, at midnight from Saturday to Sunday, they walk through the streets of Priego singing verses written by the local people, all to the same melody, to call for the Rosary prayer. It is one of the city’s most cherished traditions and one that most impresses visitors.

Songs for the deceased in the cemetery

On All Saints’ night, the Hermanos de la Aurora bring their song to the Santo Cristo cemetery with the Souls' Songs, dedicated to the deceased. The event takes place in the cemetery chapel during the early hours from Saturday, October 31 to Sunday, November 1, 2026; the exact time has not been published. The City Council presents it as a revived and established tradition of great ethnographic and musical value.

The Santo Cristo cemetery

The Santo Cristo cemetery was inaugurated in 1869. Highlights include the main chapel, the pantheon of the Hermandad de la Caridad, some private graves in the central area, and the wrought iron gate at the entrance, all from the same period. During October and November, it is open daily from 8:00 to 20:00. On November 1 and 2 at 17:00, masses for the deceased of the Souls' Week are held there.
