What it is / What you will see
The Saltamontes Backyard Ultra was the first race in this format organised in Andalusia and in 2027 it reaches its fifth edition. The mechanics, devised by Lazarus Lake, the creator of the Barkley Marathons, are simple and brutal: every hour you set off to cover a loop of 6,706 metres and have to complete it before the bell rings for the next start. There is no set distance or time; the last one standing wins. The course is 100% trails and dirt tracks in the foothills of Sierra Morena, among holm oaks, carob trees and olive trees, a stone's throw from the city. This edition is a Bronze Ticket event in the Spain Backyard Ultra system.
