The play
First staged in 1928, The Threepenny Opera is the musical parody with which Brecht and Weill portrayed the poverty, prostitution and abuse of power of a system that works like one big machine of organised crime. This version by Mario Vega moves the satire to today's economic crisis and entrusts the role of the bandit Macheath to the musician Coque Malla, with Omar Calicchio and Carmen Barrantes. Musical direction is by Miguel Malla.
