All the information

About the event
In 2027 Córdoba shares with Saida (Lebanon) the title of Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue awarded by the Union for the Mediterranean and the Anna Lindh Foundation. The City Council plans activities from January to December, centred on the fourth centenary of the death of Luis de Góngora, and will present the bulk of the programme on 28 November 2026, Day of the Mediterranean.
Key points
- Full programme: to be presented on 28 November 2026
- 4th centenary of the death of Góngora (23 May 1627)
- Title shared with Saida (Lebanon)
What it is
The Union for the Mediterranean and the Anna Lindh Foundation chose Córdoba, together with Saida in Lebanon, as Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2027, a title previously held by Alexandria and Tirana (2025) and Matera and Tétouan (2026). The curator, Juan Miguel Moreno Calderón, wants to start in January and keep activities going until December, earlier than the current capitals began. The programme is organised into strands: culture and cultural diplomacy, historic heritage, young talent and contemporary creation, and urban diplomacy (sustainability, migration, interfaith dialogue), as well as the collaboration with Saida. The fourth centenary of the death of Luis de Góngora will be the main common thread, with popular and academic events and a presence in schools.
Dates and how to follow it
There is no final calendar yet: Córdoba City Council will present the bulk of the programme (activities, forums and exhibitions) on 28 November 2026, coinciding with the Day of the Mediterranean, and in mid-October it expects a visit from a Saida delegation to finalise bilateral agreements. The organisation is in the hands of the City Council with a committee that includes the Diputación, the Junta de Andalucía, the Subdelegación del Gobierno and the University of Córdoba; the Junta will contribute its cultural venues and the Fundación Tres Culturas. An open call for projects from artists and collectives is also being prepared. The events will be spread across different venues in the city.
