What it is and what you will see
A circular walk from the Plaza Mayor in La Granjuela through the Alto Guadiato, within the Special Protection Area for birds of the same name. The path passes under the Córdoba-Almorchón railway line, climbs to the Las Asperillas viewpoint, built on an old water tank that was never used and which now also serves as a stargazing observatory, and reaches Las Peñas Altas, the highest point and a balcony over the ravine that gives the route its name. The area is good for seeing griffon and black vultures, kites and great bustards, and was the scene of fighting in the Civil War. The accompanying visit is to the Centro de Interpretación de Aves Esteparias, the steppe birds interpretation centre.
