About the event
El Viso hosts its 8th Gachas Contest on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 7:00 pm in the Town Hall Square, with gachas plates for €1 and free anise for the public. At the same time, the Terror Tunnel opens in the Civil War shelter, with an entrance fee of €2. Organized by Peña Cultural Reyes Magos and AMPA Antonio Machado with the City Council.

Gachas in the square
Peña Cultural Reyes Magos organizes, with the collaboration of the City Council, the eighth edition of the El Viso Gachas Contest. It takes place on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 7:00 pm in the Town Hall Square. Contestants cook on site: the organization provides butane gas cylinders and each brings their burners and utensils. The gachas are made traditionally and can only be served with tostones and, if desired, cinnamon. Depending on the number of participants, cooking will be done in two shifts.
Prizes and tasting
There are three prizes: €150 for first place, €100 for second, and €75 for third. Those wishing to compete must register at the El Viso Town Hall by Thursday, October 29. The public also benefits: they can try a plate of gachas for €1 and there will be free anise for all attendees.
Terror Tunnel in the shelter
That same evening, the Terror Tunnel opens, a scary route set up in the town’s Civil War shelter. Entrance costs €2 and it is organized by AMPA Antonio Machado of CEIP La Inmaculada, also with municipal support. Gachas and scares on the same Halloween night, right in the center of El Viso: a perfect plan to go with family or friends and spend the afternoon in the square.
