Natalia Menéndez directs a contemporary rereading of Jacinto Benavente's La malquerida with Aitana Sánchez-Gijón as Raimunda, Juan Carlos Vellido as Esteban and Lucía Juárez as Acacia. A tragic triangle of passion and forbidden desire on a country estate. Saturday 14 November at the Gran Teatro.

The play
On a summer estate, Raimunda and her daughter Acacia are celebrating an engagement. Raimunda, a widow, married Esteban, whom Acacia rejects in public while the two conceal a forbidden love. Esteban gradually drives away the young woman's suitors, and in the village she ends up known as La malquerida, the unloved one. Natalia Menéndez and Juan Carlos Rubio adapt Benavente's drama to examine passion and human impulses from today's perspective.
