What it is
La casa rosa de Jaipur is the show by Ashira Danza Oriental, programmed for all audiences at the Teatro Avanti. It tells the story of Lakshmi, who flees her home town and a marriage of convenience imposed by Indian custom. She arrives in Jaipur ready to start from scratch, with her only way forward resting on her gift for henna drawing and her remedies for curing the ailments of the city's richest women. As she settles in she cannot imagine what she has left behind, and by living in the present she will end up changing her future. Dance is the thread running through this story of escape and reinvention, in a Sunday evening performance.
